Alicia Sacramone is unlike most elite gymnasts in the world. She's
stylish, dynamic, personable, and an Ivy League college student. Few have ever
tried to compete as both an NCAA gymnast and an international elite gymnast,
but Alicia has managed to find a balance between the two very difficult worlds
and experience success in each. In her rookie season as a Brown Bear, Alicia
set school scoring records and became the first gymnast to ever win all five
events at the Ivy Classic. She also managed to earn a 3.5 GPA despite spending
hours in the gym and car each day, traveling back and forth between Brown and
her club gym Brestyan's. But an already hectic life for the Boston-area native
is about to get even crazier... August 8, 2007 was the one year mark to the
2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.
After a disastrous performance at the 2004 Nationals, she was unable to
qualify to the Olympic Trials and continue her quest to make the Olympics. But
that was then, this is now. Three years later, Alicia is in a completely
different place in the world of gymnastics. No longer the young and
inexperienced talent in the field, Alicia is a veteran of the USA team and a
medal threat in any meet. Just a little more than a year after Alicia watched
the Athens Olympics from her home and nearly quit the elite world, she won a
gold medal on her favorite event, the floor exercise, at the 2005 World
Championships. That type of performance, combined with her amazing vaulting
abilities, puts Alicia near the top of the list for the Olympic team. If all
goes as planned, Alicia will finally realize her biggest dream.
