News & Updates

November 27, 2005 - Once again Chellsie shared the medal stand with her teammate Nastia Liukin! Despite having to go up first in the balance beam competition, Chellsie earned the silver medal behind her USA teammate with perhaps the routine of her life! Every skill in her routine was nailed perfectly for a score of 9.512! Catalina Ponor, the current Olympic champion on beam, finished in third. Congratulations on your three medals Chellsie!

"I'm really happy with how I did! It's all very unexpected, to achieve what I have. All I tried to do was to hit my routines as best I could for each event and that's what I did." - Chellsie, after the beam final.

Her USA teammates Alicia Sacramone and Nastia finished 1st and 2nd in the floor exercise final! This means the USA won all nine of the possible medals they could in these World Championships, and 4 out of the 5 gold medals were awarded to American gymnasts. GO USA

New photos have been added from prelims and both days of event finals.

November 26, 2005 - Just hours after winning the all-around title, Chellsie competed in the uneven bars final! Despite having an unfortunate line-up position, Chellsie made the most of the opportunity and hit a beautiful routine! She scored a 9.587 and earned the silver medal behind teammate Nastia Liukin and ahead of Beth Tweddle.

"I was really pleased with my performance. Nastia did a great routine; she was very impressive. I am not worried that I didn't defend the world title!" - Chellsie, after the bars final.

Tweddle also finished third in 2003, when Chellsie tied with teammate Hollie Vise for the World title in Anaheim, California.

Chellsie has one more opportunity to medal in tomorrow's balance beam final. USA teammate Alicia Sacramone nabbed the bronze medal in the vault final and will have another medal opportunity in the floor final tomorrow. Nastia will be in the beam final with Chellsie and the floor final. Good luck and GO USA!

November 25, 2005 - Chellsie is the new WORLD ALL-AROUND CHAMPION! She finished .001 ahead of teammate Nastia Liukin in the all-around final! Monette Russo of Australia narrowly defeated Great Britain's Beth Tweddle for the bronze. Photos have been added!

"I'm amazed right now! It'll take a little while to sink in. I'm just really excited!" - Chellsie, after the competition

Chellsie started the night on vault, landing her Yurchenko double-twist cleanly for a 9.325 and third place after the first rotation. After a strong performance on the uneven bars for a 9.537, she moved into first place, just .138 ahead of Nastia. After a clean beam routine from Chellsie (9.437) and a stellar performance by Nastia, Nastia took the lead by .024! The champion would be determined on the floor exercise and both had amazing routines! Chellsie scored a 9.537 and Nastia scored a 9.512, giving Chellsie an all-around total of 37.824... just .001 higher than her teammate's! It was a very exciting and crowd-pleasing all-around competition. Congratulations to both Chellsie and Nastia for their amazing performances.

By winning the gold medal, Chellsie became just America's third world all-around champion! Kim Zmeskal won in 1991 and Shannon Miller won in 1993 and 1994. These championships are still not over for Chellsie - she will compete for the uneven bars title tomorrow and will go for gold on balance beam the day after that. Good luck Chellsie and GO USA!

July 28, 2005 - Chellsie recently competed at the 2005 U.S. Classic in Virginia Beach. Already qualified to Nationals, she used this meet as a warm-up and a chance to display some new skills. She competed on floor for the first time in over a year and showed a new tumbling pass (double layout) but sat down her third pass for an 8.466. Her double-twisting Yurchenko was clean for a 9.266 and she did an easier bar routine (she didn't connect all her release moves) for a 9.600 and third place. On beam she showed a revamped routine from earlier this year, removing her illusion and switch leap to back tuck combinations and replacing them with a switch leap to wolf full and a switch side leap. She was solid and scored a 9.633, the second highest on that event! Her all-around total of 36.965 was the fourth highest behind Nastia Liukin, Jana Bieger, and Kassi Price.

For complete results, coverage, and photos, visit the following websites: Excalibur, Inside Gymnastics, Total Gymnast.

April 20, 2005 - Chellsie and other members of the senior and junior National Teams were recently involved in a European tour! They trained and competed with members of Great Britain and Switzerland's national teams in their respective countries and came away with impressive results at both meets. The US team was Chellsie, Nastia Liukin, Jana Bieger, Melanie Sinclair, Kassi Price, and juniors Bianca Flohr, Ashley Priess, and Shayla Worley.

In Great Britain, Chellsie competed on vault (9.050), bars (9.850), and beam (9.000). Chellsie had the highest score on bars, the US team won the team competition (152.700-144.480), and Nastia Liukin won the all-around (38.550).

Next the team traveled to Switzerland where Chellsie had a much better competition this time! She competed on the same three events: vault (9.600), bars (9.700), beam (9.550). She was first on vault, second on bars, and third on beam! Once again the US once came away with first place (152.625-138.600) and Nastia Liukin won the all-around (38.775).

February 27, 2005 - Chellsie had a great competition at this year's American Cup! Held in Uniondale, New York, the new competition format featured event finals only, no all-around competition was held. Chellsie qualified for two finals and brought home two medals! To qualify to the finals, Chellsie scored a 9.650 on bars behind teammate Nastia Liukin and a 9.450 on beam, second again to Nastia.

She did a double-twisting Yurchenko (one step for a 9.400); connected her Hindorf + Pak + stalder 1/2 + stalder 1/1 + toe shoot (hop on her double front dismount, 9.675). On beam she did a piked barani, wolf jump full, switch side leap, and an acro series of flip flop to layout (tiny step on double pike dismount, 9.637). On floor she mounted with a piked double arabian but stumbled on her 2 1/2 twist to front layout for a 9.362. Congratulations Chellsie!

August 18, 2003 - Chellsie had an amazing meet last night, starting out on vault. She hit her Yurchenko 1 1/2 for a 9.212! She absolutely nailed bars, scoring a 9.575 and qualifying to event finals, despite being the lead-off gymnast. She competed second on beam, nailed her routine to score a 9.412 and again make event finals! She closed her night on floor, hitting for a 9.250 and a total of 37.449.

Chellsie was not only the top all-around gymnast for the US but also the highest scores on beam and floor. As of Subdivision 5, Chellsie is second in the all-around behind Spain's Elena Gomez. She's second on bars behind teammate Courtney Kupets and third on beam behind Romania's Catalina Ponor and Russia's Ludmilla Yezhova. The USA is second behind Romania (by less than 4 tenths) with China, Australia, and Ukraine to compete!

August 16, 2003 - Chellsie was solid today in practice, hitting her skills on bars and beam with even more amplitude and better form! A few more articles have been published online about Chellsie being named to the team.

Unfortunately the US team has changed once again due to the injury sustained by Annia Hatch today in training. She dislocated her knee on vault and had to withdraw from the meet. Replacing her will be Terin Humphrey. USAG has released the lineup for team prelims, Chellsie has been selected as the lead-off gymnast on vault, bars, and floor. This is a very important position as she will be setting the pace for the rest of her teammates!

June 23, 2003 - Chellsie competed at her first Senior Nationals this week in front of a hometown crowd! Due to her limited training time on all four events prior to competing, she finished 10th in the all-around. This was still high enough to place her on the Senior National Team and qualify her to the Selection Camp (July 1st-6th) where she will either make the World Championships Team or the Pan-American Games Team.

Starting the meet on Thursday night, Chellsie got off to a strong start on bars with a revised routine: Hindorff-Pak salto-stalder 1/2-stalder 1/1-toe shoot; jam dislocate-double front for a too-low 9.175 and 8th place on the event. On beam she nailed all her combinations and skills for a 9.550 and 5th. She performed a switch leap to 1-armed back handspring combination and a punch front instead of a punch front to Yang Bo jump combination. A pause in her barani to back handspring prevented her from scoring higher. On floor she had an unfortunate fall on her third pass (2 1/2 to front) after hitting her running double front and two whips to double arabian. She stuck her double pike for an 8.525. She finished the meet with a nice Yurchenko arabian vault (Hristakieva) instead of some of the harder vaults she's capable of for an 8.925. Her total of 36.175 was the 11th best.

Saturday night was the one day of competition where there were no one-touch warm-ups but Chellsie performed well regardless. She started the night on bars, where she improved her routine from prelims and scored a 9.325. She then performed the routine of the meet on beam, nailing everything perfectly for a 9.700 that erupted the hometown crowd. She improved her vault from the first night also, scoring an 8.975 but another fall on floor (this time on her double arabian) left her with another lower-than-usual score of 8.600. Her finals total of 36.600 was the 8th best and her combined total of 72.775 was the 10th best. Congratulations on a great meet Chellsie and good luck at the camp!  photos from Nationals have been added. A lot of articles featuring Chellsie have been published online also:

Unfortunately Chellsie is now questionable for competing at "her" Nationals in her hometown of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in just over two weeks. IG published a short article about Chellsie's foot injury on May 23rd that she sustained at camp. She "bruised the navicular bone in her left foot" according to IG but her mother Jeanette reported that neither X-rays or MRIs showed any signs of a fracture. Get well soon Chellsie!
