August 10, 2002 - Kassi improved her all around standing and was able to move up to 16th and secure a place on the National Team for the second year in a row!
She started on floor and landed all of her passes solidly but unfortunately went out of bounds on her opening tucked full-in for an 8.700. On vault she had a strong Yurchenko 1 1/2 and scored a 9.250 - her highest score of the meet!
On bars she had another pretty solid routine (clear hip full, giant full to Tkatchev, double layout full dismount) for an 8.500! Her last event, beam, she had a really strong double tuck dismount and scored an 8.575.
Congratulations on a great meet Kassi! You can find full results of the junior competition here. Also, we hope Kassi's teammate Katie Kivisto recovers quickly from a sprained ankle she sustained during the first day of seniors.
August 8, 2002 - Kassi's first day of Nationals didn't go as well as she would've hoped, but she still has a chance to move up in the rankings on Saturday for all around finals.
She started the day off on beam, where she had some breaks (but had a great double tuck dismount) and scored a 7.950. She hit her floor routine to "Crocodile Rock" and scored an 8.575 (full-in, triple twist, double pike). Next she had a clean vault for another 8.575 and she finished the meet with a strong bars routine (Tkatchev, full-twisting double layout dismount) for an 8.525. Her all around total was a 33.725, which was good enough for 19th!
Good luck on Saturday Kassi!

June 2, 2002 - Kassi had another great day during the event finals - she
got second on both beam and floor and fourth on bars! On vault she had a 9.130 but had to take a one point
deduction because she didn't have two different families of vaults and ended up with an 8.130. Her teammate
and training partner Katie Kivisto won beam and was third on bars, and had the same problems on vault that
Kassi had.
Pictures
from the meet will be coming as soon as possible!
May 31, 2002 - We have some great news from the 2002 Copa Puerto Rico Cup -
Kassi won the all around gold! Kassi's parents traveled with her to Puerto Rico and send us an update:
"Last night the USA team competed in the all-around and team competition.
Unfortunately I have to report that Brittney Koncak injured herself the
first day of practice and could not compete. She rolled both ankles and they
are pretty swollen.
As far as the competition, in the all-around Kassi
won the gold medal and Katie Kivisto received the bronze. A gymnast from
Brazil won the silver. The USA team of Kassi and Katie took home the gold
medal in the team competition as well. Brazil was second and Mexico was
third. The girls did great. Kassi pretty much hit 4 for 4 with some slight
bobbles. Katie did very well except for a fall on her tuck full on beam.
I'm not positive, but I believe Kassi and Katie made event finals in all
four events. They compete at 3:30 pm today June 1, 2002."
May 12, 2002 - Kassi had a great competition at the USA vs. Belgium
camp & meet! She finished fourth behind teammates Chellsie Memmel, Brittney Koncak, and Allyse Ishino! She
also finished first on vault!
She also unveiled several new skills she has been working on: a full-in beam dismount, and two new beam
combinations: switch leap - back handspring 1/2 - split leap 1/2; and Onodi - front handspring - 1 armed
back handspring. Her routine now starts from a 10.0!
She also did a new 2 1/2 twist punch front full, and a new bars combination: clear hip full to toe on sit up.
Congratulations to Kassi and the rest of her US teammates on a great meet! Pictures from the camp
can be seen on USA Gymnastics!
May 4, 2002 - Kassi will be leaving Wednesday for camp to compete
in the Belgium vs. USA meet! The rest of the team will be Katie Kivisto, Brittney Koncak, Jalynne Dantzscher,
