My coach never intended for me to have a triple back for a bar dismount. Its not like he said "Tessa I am going to give you a really hard dismount that you will probably never land". I was actually training a double layout flyaway for over 4 months but it never got better than an (arch-pike). One day I was on the single bar over the pit throwing really high double tucks and accidently threw a 2 ½. My coach laughed and said throw a triple so I did.

After a few weeks I was in the belt on the uneven bars and then 2 months later I landed my first one without the belt. So far I have landed over 500 and after Nationals I started landing 3 out of 4 a night. I know it is a very risky dismount but without risk gymnastics would be very boring. I am going to start learning a new dismount though just as a backup for those really off days.

Did you know? Brenda Magana of Mexico was the first gymnast to perform a triple back off the uneven bars in a World or Olympic competition. The skill is now named after her!
